Discover Square of Miracles
Pisa Cathedral is a wonderful example of Romanesque architecture. Its building was influenced by various cultures and styles. It have a gray marble facade, with details and inserts of colored marble. Absolutely to not miss the Pulpit inside, a wonderful work by Giovanni Pisano.
The realization of the Baptistery started in 1152, initially designed by Diotislavi, it was then completed and revisited by Nicola Pisano, that added a lodge and a cupola. The building have a round structure, decorated with various details, in particular on the portals. The Pisa Baptistery is the largest in Italy.
Symbol of the city, its construction began in 1173 and initially was only a bell attached to the Cathedral and Baptistery. The inclination is caused by the shifting ground in the subsoil, reason that often during years interrupted the work. The Tower is 55 meters high and require around 290 steps to reach the top, but it's worth it.
The construction of the Medieval Camposanto started in 1277, with a rectangular structure set on the north side of the Square. It hosts a large collection of sculptures and frescoes, including works by Taddeo Gaddi, Andrea Bonaiuti and Benozzo Gozzoli. Within the cloister you will find also sarcophagi and medieval monuments funeral.
